I wouldn't call them the best.  Mortal Kombat was stiff in all of it's iterations, the 3D ones were disappointments and last I heard: Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe was a complete fail in sales.

But anyway, it's better for them to go down so they won't try to take down H2Overdrive.

Bit of an update Midway is apparently looking to sell their Mortal Kombat assets.

Bit of an update, the section of Midway that makes Mortal Kombat wants to buy out their own assets from Midway and form their own studio.

You know you've fucked up if this is happening.

To make a long story short they never got their promised bonuses for making MK Vs. DC. So word is they want to split from Midway.

Midway would still might keep the Mortal Kombat license if that happens but they'd be pretty much shit out of luck in terms of staffing at that point, and they aren't exactly in the situation where they can afford to replace a whole dev team.
